More about Casablanca

Casablanca, the port city on the Atlantic Ocean is the economic capital of Morocco. This s the largest and busiest city in the country and the commercial hub of western Morocco.  The Port of Casablanca is one of the largest artificial ports in the world.  The Hassan II Mosque, which stands partly over the ocean was completed in 1993.  It is one of the largest and most ornate mosques in the world.  It has a 210-meter minaret topped with lasers directed toward Mecca.  The city's handsome Moorish buildings, which meld French-colonial design and traditional Moroccan style, are best admired in the downtown area. Visitors who spend time in the Quartier Habous or Nouvelle Medina (the New Medina) built by the French in the 1930’s or in the beachside suburb of Ain Diab, are sure to get into the local swing of things.  This old pirate lair, now a modern city, is looking towards the future.  But it also embraces the European-flavored urban sophistication that has underpinned life here for the past century. This city is certainly worth a visit. With Morocco Meta Adventures you will see the best of the country.  Don’t hesitate to contact us.

More about Morocco

Morocco, in north Africa, is the only African country with coastal exposure to both the Atlantic Ocean in the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the north.  Its land borders are Algeria to the east and Mauritanian to the southeast. Morocco has a history of extensive migration.  Many towns and cities were settled and developed by other cultures.  The region was first controlled by Carthage from an early date.  Later, it was the western most province of the Roman Empire.  Following the Arab conquest of the late 7th century, the area of North Africa came to be known as the Maghreb – which means West in Arabic.  After this conquest, most of the people accepted Islam as their religion. Morocco is a land of contrasts with magnificent and interesting cities and fascinating landscapes.  The largest city and major Atlantic Ocean port is Casablanca, an industrial and commercial center.  The beautiful capital of Rabat lies a short distance to the north on the Atlantic coast.  Other port cities include Tangier on the Strait of Gibraltar, Agadir on the Atlantic and Al Hoceima on the Mediterranean.  Chefchaouen in the north is called “The Blue Pearl of Morocco”.  While Marrakech in the south is “The Magical Red City”.   But equally, Fes is said to have some of the finest souks, or open-air markets in all North Africa. There are the famous Atlas Mountains, the Dadès Gorges and the beautiful sand dunes of Erg Chebbi of the Sahara.    Although these areas showcase the contrasting geography of Morocco there are many other fascinations areas to discover.  The country is rapidly modernizing with a rising standard of living.  However, it retains much of its ancient architecture and even more of its traditional customs that attract Morrocan tours. Morocco is a country of peace and fertility - a land of the IMAZIGHEN or Berbers, an ethnic group indigenous to the Maghreb region of North Africa. Scenic and fertile, Morocco well merits the praise of its native son Ibn Battutah.  This medieval traveller wrote of Morocco - “It is the best of countries, for in it fruits are plentiful, and running water and nourishing food are never exhausted”.
This day tour will be an amazing experience of a lifetime. You will discover some of the hidden areas of Morocco in the former Portuguese town of El-Jadida, now an UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you are interested in Moroccan history, this is the day tour for you.
